Samlon Privacy Notice — Version 2

What we collect

Name, gender, birth/death dates and places, occupation, a photo, biography, phone number, WhatsApp number, email, permanent and communication addresses — for people you add to your family tree, and account details (phone, email) for registered users. For registered users, we also record your role on each family tree (Viewer, Contributor, Moderator, or Owner) and, when a tree owner assigns or removes a role, who made that change and when.

Why we collect it

Solely to build and display your family tree within the Samlon service. We do not sell personal data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties except service providers necessary to operate Samlon (e.g. our email provider, for sending consent and notification emails).

Legal basis

Your consent, given either directly (if you register) or by responding to a Consent Request sent when a relative adds you, or by a parent/guardian's attestation if you are a minor.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or erasure of your personal data at any time via the standing rights-request link included in your consent confirmation email, or by contacting our Grievance Officer using the details below.

Retention

Declining a consent request deletes the sensitive fields immediately. Expired, never-responded consent links are purged of their token. Rejected registration/edit requests have their submitted content cleared after 90 days. A deleted tree is recoverable for 30 days before permanent removal. Active, consented family-tree records are otherwise retained indefinitely, consistent with a family tree's purpose as a historical record.

Scope

Samlon is offered exclusively to residents of India. We do not knowingly offer registration to individuals outside India.
